About Morgan Kuhn

For Morgan, art has always been about capturing the essence of a single moment  in time.  By relying on broad strokes, lush colors, and her deeply intuitive spirit, Morgan is able to reduce complex subjects to their primary features and sensations, creating an exuberant impression of an instant, of a glance, or of a wild expanse.  Her style deliberately makes each viewer become an active part of the artistic process, having to imagine small details and notions, making every painting uniquely understood and interpreted.  For many who view Morgan’s works, this experience is one of profound personal satisfaction; for others it is more of a private eureka moment, where the painting becomes so much more than the sum of single strokes.

Morgan’s main studio is in Historic Savannah, on the top floor of her recently renovated 1882 brownstone.  Her hands-on, creative approach to the design of the renovation resulted in the preservation of many architectural details and craftwork no longer available today.  As a result, the house was recognized by the prestigious Historic Preservation Society of Savannah as an example of how modernization need not compete with or negate old-style craftsmanship.  She approached the details of the decorating and colors of the house in the same artistic way she creates a work on canvas, reducing the complex four story whole-house design dilemma into a room-by-room delight with an overall sense of refined, yet luxurious and inviting comfort.

On the garden floor of this 1882 house, Morgan has opened a warm, welcoming gallery featuring her work and that of a few other Low Country artists.  The Downstairs Gallery also highlights guest artists from the Hilton Head area and from the Waterfront Gallery in Charleston where her work is available as well.  At present, Morgan alternates between living in Savannah GA and the Isle of Palms, SC.  When she needs the energizing vitality of the city, she can be found in downtown Savannah.   She periodically escapes to Isle of Palms where she recharges on fresh salt air and broad ocean expanses.
